Hard Work

Hard Work

I lay in my sheets.

The alarm keeps ringing.

Dreams my head keeps bringing,

Of sleep sweet.

I force myself up,

Before the sun.

There’s labor to be done.

This feels corrupt.

All of my efforts will be gone,

In sixty years time.

no more stories, no more rhyme.

It is just now turning dawn.

Why work so hard to pay the bills?

she wakes when I do.

Each morning she sees me through.

Her love gives my skin chills.

My work may fade,

In such short a season.

But you are the reason,

That I stay.

Steady in the way,

That’s how I will go,

If my love I will show,

By working hard today.
